GPU cost planning

Understand your RunPod bill before you compare it

Separate resource usage from account funding, check GPU-hour units, and review persistent storage charges.

Check your invoice

Funding and usage are different records

RunPod’s billing documentation distinguishes prepaid credits from resource consumption. Adding credit funds the account; the usage records describe what consumed it. Reconcile your opening balance, payments, usage and closing balance, but do not divide a top-up amount by assumed hours and call that a GPU rental rate.

Check compute units

Find the resource, GPU variant, GPU count and time interval. Convert elapsed time to hours consistently and multiply by the number of GPUs when your source reports instance-hours. Compare compute charges with a quote for the matching service type and date. Serverless pricing and Pod rental pricing have different structures; do not substitute one for the other.

Review storage separately

Stopping compute does not necessarily remove persistent storage. Identify container disks, volume disks and network volumes, their sizes and the period billed. Consult the current product documentation for the applicable rate and billing unit. Confirm backups and what data must be retained before changing or deleting a resource.

A short reconciliation checklist

Confirm the billing period and USD amounts. Separate payments from resource charges. Map GPU names and units. Keep storage out of the compute-rate comparison. Review tax, adjustments and unmatched lines separately. Check current availability before treating a reference difference as achievable savings.

When the audit needs more information

A payment receipt, an ambiguous quantity or a cropped screenshot may not establish GPU-hours. Add the missing usage detail or leave that line unpriced. OCR can misread numbers and punctuation, so check extracted values against the original. Avoid filling gaps with guesses.
